Tg Captions and my issue with them

While I will avoid generalizations am I the only one that is starting to get a bit weary of TG Captions/Comics. I feel that most of the TG related material I come across isn't creative or interesting anymore. Most writers seem to rush their ideas instead of thinking them out. For the most part, the few good caption sites don't make up for the slew of bad ones. I'm not naming anyone and I understand if some, people feel insulted. I just wanted to share my thoughts.

not a big caption fan, because so many of them are repeats of the previous one

kind of blah to me

I am not a tg person and look for any caption sites that have f2f in them. My pickings are a lot slimmer than yours. And most of the people doimg any effort here are all doing it on their own time and for free. You would not have anything without them. Even if it seems that the community goes through a dry spell from time to time, you should thank them. Do you know how hard it is to come up with ideas and find pics for them amd write them? And then suffer ungrateful and demanding fans or fans who will plaigarize your stuff? That could turn some people away from writing or captioning. If you think that your tg options are lacking, rather than complain about them, you could write yourself or encourage those who do so.

I personally just do it for fun and that's about it.

I try my best to put out decent stuff but at the end of the day, it isn't my job to slave over caps and make stories that appeal to everything and everybody. Plus I'n no good at making 'A cap where a girl's left leg is slightly longer than her right and its sexy'

I think it just depends on taste. I used to like Donnee's captions, but recently i feel like they're more about "revenge" caps

I still really like Tehswitcher's caps, that's really the main caption blogger i go to

Like Celebswap, I also do it for the fun of it. I put a lot of hard work into what I do and I do it all in my free time. Most people seem to enjoy my work so I will continue to do so as long as I have an audience.

i love the caption sites. i'll take any new material i can get my hands on. there used to be times we'd all be waiting for any movie/tv show/etc to come out with a sliver of TG. not now. always something new every day due mostly to these great caption sites. and the fact that the best contributors left yahoo recently and now have blogs is awesome to see!!!

Blofeld,

I think many captioners (captioneers?) struggle to make their captions as good as possible, whether it's never quite getting the "perfect" words, or finding the best/most evocative pics that meet their mind's eye's expectations, or fighting with their graphics program to get things just so. I still get a lot of ideas for new captions, but I've hit a brick wall due to all three creative reasons and not being able to keep up with the demands of a vocal voracious few. It's why I haven't posted anything new in over four years. :/

It's amazing to me how difficult it is to write a really good caption. It helps if something about a photo makes whatever change seem plausible, something about the pose or expression. Maybe it's a talent I simply lack.

Honestly my biggest problem with captions is the use of obvious porn pictures. Part of the appeal of captions for me is seeing the way the picture and the caption itself work to give you almost a snippet and it lets your imagination go from there. With porn though you don't really get that I think and I think a lot of porn pictures just look trashy and unappealing.

From: guest (JosieChung) , 126 months, post #11
Rugal,

Many of us have no problem using/seeing porn pics, running from mere nudity all the way to full hardcore. I want to see the protagonist enjoying her/his new form because that is who I project myself onto, and frankly, I need to get off too. Instead of using only G to PG rated pics, I'd much rather be very selective in using/seeing well-lit and post-processed pics instead of the flood of porn shoots where the photographer and producers don't seem to care about any real effort to make the subject(s) look appealing. While I'm biased, I think I used to do a decent job using porn pics; you can judge for yourself here .

The porn pics i don't like either. I have no problem with people who like to view porn but it isn't my thing. Also the lack of emotional weight beck then when captions just started becoming popular i think people took the time and made the captions have some sort of subtext meaning that every story felt like it had real human emotion, thought, feeling to it. Nowadays it feels more like a cheap gimmick.

My major problem with these tg caps are they are often not written well. The dialogue, when present, is often stilted and doesn't sound like the way real people would talk ot react in those unique circumstances.

From: tehswitcher , 126 months, post #14
Nothing wrong with sharing thoughts! I try and write kooky ideas, but it's hard to make your ideas different when you have such a limited space to write. No excuses here, just sayin'. And you shouldn't forget the few out there that enjoy eating the same meal everyday. ;D

Also, I'd love to welcome anyone out there to join the caption race if they feel they've got better, more creative ideas. I think that's how the field will grow -- getting more creative minds out there.

(Huzzah?)

Well said, tehswitcher!

From: Quiksilver , 126 months, post #16
Well put Tehswitcher!

From: rugal , 126 months, post #17
I definitely enjoy your captions a lot tehswitcher. Maybe an idea for your blog, and perhaps to encourage more captioners, would be that you do captions M-F and then for the weekend people can submit their own caps and you can pick from however many you think meet your standards to go up on the site?

From: guest (CelebSwap) , 126 months, post #18
Yeah, more cappers hanging around and putting out stuff is always great. Who knows, might inspire others and then we have an outbreak of creativity.

I know Tehswitcher got me into the game for sure.

Gawd, they're all mind numbingly alike. I wander if John Irving could even come up with anything much different. Although a few months back there was a really different (for me) caption blog on wordpress that I found interesting but it was apparently deleted. Sometimes remnants of deleted blogs show up on image search. I'd like to find some remnant of that one.

As someone who has just recently got into doing TG stories thanks to a few people on DA, I am sort of mixed when it comes to this. Especially the celebrity related ones...if you're on deviantart, then you probably know of the whole copyright thing regarding the rules and how screencaps and such aren't allowed which is sort of contradicting itself because there are a LOT on there.

My issue with that is that having to look past the copyright issues thing regarding the rules, specifically if it is of a character or real life person. Because of the whole 'Google isn't stock' thing.

I may be the only who thinks this, but sometimes I wonder how exactly they manage to post them without getting reported.
