I have been watching some of the Lalolas a lot recently and I've
seen the differences with the characters and their sexual
orientation. In the Portugal Lalola, the main male character is
simply turned into a female version of himself. He still likes
women in his female version. Perhaps, since he still has his
original(even though it's a female brain), he still likes women. In
the Belgium Lalola, the main male character swaps bodies with a
gorgeous blonde woman. Since he had that woman's brain, he liked
men while in her beautiful body. I still think it's weird how a man
who is straight in a male body suddenly loves men when he is placed
in another woman's body. Then again, is your sexual orientation
related to your brain functionality or the essence/soul/personality
that you have?

I've never understood the argument that, if a man swaps bodies with
a woman or transforms into a woman, he'll have the woman's brain,
but his mind. Aren't the brain and the mind the same thing? I tend
to prefer to think that, if you swap bodies, your brain is in the
body of the person you swap with. I guess it raises questions about
how exactly the brain would hook itself up properly to the new
body's nerves and veins and arteries and all of that, but if you
start thinking about that too much, the whole concept of switching
bodies kind of falls apart.
In my opinion, a person's sexual orientation wouldn't change just
because his or her body changed; I tend to assume sexual
orientation is deeply wired into the brain, and, as I've said, I
assume that, for someone's consciousness be transferred to a
different body, the brain would have to be transferred. There are
accounts of transsexual people's orientation changing during/after
transition, but I think I would tend to assume that's because the
trans person is bisexual rather than actually switching from being
attracted to sex A to being attracted to sex B.
The new body's hormones would have some slight reorganizing effects
on the person's brain, and there might be slight shifts in the
person's personality behavior and certain cognitive abilities
(spatial ability, processing speed), but I don't think the person's
sexual orientation would be impacted.

Brain structure does seem to influence sexual orientation, though;
supposedly homosexuals have certain parts of their brains tending
to resemble those of persons of the other gender. I don't know how
scientifically solid such findings are, but they do imply that a
man's self in a female body with the usual female brain structure
might well become attracted to men.
As this is all impossible anyway, it's sort of idle to speculate.

First, one has to ask: is one's sexual orientation being attracted
by women or being attracted by the other sex (in my case)? Would
keeping my sexual orientation and changing into a woman mean I
would still be attracted to women or still heterosexual (but a
heterosexual woman)?
Second: if I changed into a heterosexual woman, I would still remember
being attracted by women and finding disgusting to kiss a man.
There would certainly be a certain time before I'd accept my new
feelings.

I disagree, I personally think more of us are bi sexual then let
on, look at the animal kingdom, environmental factors change a
animals perceived sexual preference. Like you say it's linked to
the brain, so I see it as some people are straight as an arrow and
would be gay in their new gender, where as others are only as
straight as society demands and would become openly bisexual or
perhaps swap social norms in their new gender. I find it very
interesting how social constrictions cause so many homophobic
people, when animals are much less bothered about sexuality in
nature (and ancient human civilisations)

When one asks what is the difference between the brain and the
mind, we get into metaphysics. In that view, the mind is the soul
and the brain is the machine that the soul uses to run a physical
body in the material world. Frankenstein, and even more, Herbert
West (the Lovecraft character), had a different idea, essentially
that a living being is a machine made out of meat.
When we address the subject of the orientation of tg characters we
are speaking about something outside reality and there is no true
or false, no right or wrong; whatever our view, we are being
neither scientific or non-scientific. We are simply talking about
characterization in fictional plots.
To argue this subject on one side or the other is really only to
say that one would like to see more works that gives him the plot
that he likes. As for me, in a tg book, tv show, or movie, I prefer
to see the character gradually reorient to heterosexuality
befitting his or her new body. I think that's very upbeat; a stroke
of bad luck offers the chance for a new life with new
opportunities. Because the new life will be so full of strangeness,
it will require learning and discovery, and a jaded life thereby
transforms into one filled with novelty and wonder.
The major early works of the genre have usually shied away from
sexual reorientation. One that didn't was Cleo-Leo. The Lalola
versions where Lola finds a man to love, I would say, represent the
best work of the genre. I hope that the plot becomes the new master
for plot future creative works, replacing the old Turnabout model
that used to inspire so many tg stories.

Honestly, any approach that supports the story is valid. There are
good stories to be told regardless of which path the author takes.
But if you asked me what I thought would actually happen, I'd say
that the changed person would become bisexual. Or perhaps asexual
and deeply confused. If I am swapped into the body of a
heterosexual woman, the general assumptions are that my soul has
been put into her brain and that sexuality is shaped by the brain's
wiring. But I've brought my memories, personality, body language,
likes and dislikes. If I walk past a burger joint and still find
the aroma appealing even though she didn't, that suggests that some
of my associations have carried over with me. I may continue to
check out girls but does my new brain have the same response that
it used to?
Rather than try to resolve the questions decisively, I'd be tempted
to dive into the complexities and show a character who isn't sure
what his sexuality is anymore. The character still likes to look at
women, enjoys the newfound ease of talking with some amazing women,
but the physical attraction is muted. The poor guy would like to be
a lesbian but it isn't working. He finds himself attracted to men,
has fun talking with a guy on a date, but doesn't feel comfortable
being kissed. Or even touched. He could go either way or none at
all.

What if it's like the Portugal Lalola where the brain is
technically still yours? The only difference is that your brain and
body have been turned into a female version of yourself. Would your
sexual orientation change any or would you still like what you
liked when you had a male body?
|
From: guest

Could you like what you liked before, if a runner, who cant or
hates swimming, turned into a fish it would not matter how much
they loved running they would learn to love to swim or they would
have a miserable life... It would be something new, how do you know
what you would like till you try it, regardless of what makes you,
you. Same goes for any transformation, would a guy scared of nights
turned into a bird learn to fly, or get eaten (I'm sure this was a
goosebumps or Jim hensons episode?)
So as said before its impossible to guess what would happen in real
life and then I dare say everyone would be different.

Here is one theory.
Even the most heterosexual man would be able to look at some men
and see why women would find them attractive.
Now that same man finds his soul transferred into the body of a
female he finds attractive. He may not like being in her body, but
he can admit that he is now an attractive she. And just for this,
say she has gone from being a 6'4" muscular guy, to a petite 5' 4"
woman.
Now for some reason this new she finds herself stranded in a remote
location with one of those men that she could earlier see why women
would find them attractive. He is the same as she was, 6' 4" tall,
muscular, etc.
After a few years with just him, what happens to her? No other
contact but this man. She has a woman's body with a woman's
hormones. She does not have his size, strength, etc.
He will have to do the heavy lifting, and she will be forced into
the role of a helper.I think in not too long of a time, if non
other than to fight off loneliness, she will accept him as a lover.
Start to see herself as the submissive and passive partner.
She may not lose all of her desire for women, but after a few years
she will be in a different mindset towards at least one man.
Just a thought

If two people actually switched brains wouldn't the immune system
try its hardest to fight the foreign body part, essentially killing
the new brains?
Also, it depends on what your beliefs are. I believe that we are
not our bodies, but rather the electrical impulses (and something a
bit less concrete than even that) expressing itself through a
physical medium (our bodies). I believe that the brain is just a
kind of conduit for your mind to express itself in the real world,
to feel sensations, interpret physical information, and to
effectively change the environment around you.
The sexual attraction thing is interesting too. Here's my theories
on that. It's got to be the relationship of the DNA to the hormones
the body produces (which is all controlled by the brain). A horse
and a human both have estrogen, but when exposed to these hormones,
a horse and a human will develop slightly differently, probably due
to how the DNA decides to interpret and incorporate those hormones.
I could be wrong, in fact I'm not above that.
What I'm saying is that if a mind switch were to occur then the
male ego in the female's brain would probably try to resist her
attractions, which is just a form of denial because "he'd" be
feeling something the whole time. If they switched brains however,
he'd be a little bit more himself, could resist the attraction much
better, and (probably) die too. Well, without anti-rejection drugs
that is.

What about the Portugal Lalola? Would that one be different since
the man was turned into a female version of himself? That would
mean that his brain is still his. His brain would just be a female
version of his brain.

To me its about body chemistry, spirit, and life experience.
If your body says you are hetero- then it will fight to be hetero-
If your spirit says you are hetero- then it will fight to be
hetero-
If your life experience is as a hetero- then it will fight to be
hetero-
Move one of those to the other side and you have internal conflict.
I am hetero but have this whole fetish thing about M2F, but I do
not want to have a relationship with a guy and I do not want it to
be permanent. I clearly see myself as a guy who likes the female
body a great deal.

Actually Jayzie, the brain is an immunologically privileged organ,
so rejection would not be a problem. The main issue is rewiring the
nervous system, since nerve tissue cannot normally heal itself. If
we had the medical know-how to reconnect a brain with a nervous
system, it's definitely possible.

I figured it would be something like that. Still a good question to
ask though. Thanks.
Another good question, would this affect how the body utilizes its
hormones (assuming of course it were possible?). I'm sure there's
been some research into such a thing as this.

The protagonist of A WOMAN'S PASSION claims early on to be 100%
heterosexual, never having had any homosexual leanings. But the
whole plot starts moving forward when he confesses to his
girlfriend that he has forever been curious about what it is like
to experience a woman's sexual response.
And then he adds a very telling confession: he admits he can't
imagine, and is particularly fascinated by, a woman's building
desire "to be entered."
Ahhh, maybe he's not as heterosexual as he claims?

We know that some transsexuals, men to women and women to men, have
found their sexuality changing once under hormone treatment, living
in their new role and other.
