Not even Morgan Fairchild knows when SAM is coming out : )
"I just consider myself very fortunate to keep getting to work with
such talented people and that we have a lot of fun on the set. It
cannot be fun if somebodys a jerk (laughs). It can really not be
fun.
Ive got Beethovens Treasure Tail with director Ron Oliver that is
probably coming out on DVD, too. I did one called Sam that Nicholas
Brooks directed who is Mel Brooks son. Im not sure when thats
coming out, but its another romantic comedy."

"[Mel Brooks is producing at the moment a film that will be
released this year and is directed by Nicholas Brooks, his son. It
is a comedy, as it couldn't be in any other way and it is about a
man who swaps genders and has an adventure while being a woman."

I hope that site knows something education all do not know. Nothing
has indicated a release this year.

Thanks Saint, for another great update.
Is anyone else mildly disappointed by the quote in the Food World
News article "has adventures while being a woman"? It seems to
imply the Sam character reverts to being male.
Well, at this point, I just hope the movie is released.

First, thanks for the thanks.
Second, it's always possible that Sam will revert to being male but
all the evidence (I've seen) points to the contrary. "Sam" is
described as a romantic comedy. You don't spend the whole movie
developing two people falling in love with one another only to take
that away. If that's your ending you're either avante garde or you
simply don't understand the basics of storytelling.
If Sam does change back I think it'll be like Cleo/Leo where it's
only temporary and then he changes back into Samantha.
Third, I'm sure the only people who have seen the film at this
point is the cast and crew so the author of this story is being
colorful with their description of the plot. I doubt it's coming
from actually having seen the movie.
Fourth, I'm pretty sure the movie will be released after they
finish shooting their new movie. Also, you don't hire Morgan
Fairchild and Stacy Keach and get Mel Brooks to bankroll your
production if you have no intention of releasing the movie. It's
still a business and a finacial investment.

What does this have to do with the topic?

I haven't seen any of the script, nor any footage from SAM, but
just to play devil's advocate here for a moment, there are two
potential ways SAM's story could wrap up, that would disappoint
TG/TF fans, since the film will undoubtedly be pitched at a
general/mainstream audience, even though it's an indie production:
1.) Sam could indeed revert back to male, for a 'bittersweet'
ending (if you think that's impossible, just think back to how the
Tom Hanks movie, BIG (1988), finished up). However, I think this
denouement will probably be unlikely, since Sam apparently falls
for his longtime best male friend, rather than (initially) a
stranger, unlike in BIG's storyline.
2.) Sam could stay permanently female, but could experience a form
of 'identity death' at the very end. That is, once Sam, as the male
personality in a female body, ultimately 'learns his lesson' about
what women have to deal with, relationship-wise and falls totally
in love with his old pal, in order to make it 'safe' for a
mainstream audience, the spell/magic that has changed him could
erase his (and perhaps everyone's) memory of his once being male.
While this would fly in the face of good storytelling (why have him
learn a life lesson, only to have it all wiped away at the end?), I
could still see this happening in a conventional romantic
fantasy-comedy film, to smooth away any awkward feelings a
mainstream audience might otherwise have about such an
unconventional (to them) romance.
Now, I'm not a pessimist, and chances are that when we finally get
to see the finished film, Samantha will hook up with her pal,
remain Samantha to the very end, and retain her old male memories
and a feminized, wiser version of her basic, former personality.
However, I did want to present a couple of potential scenarios that
could disappoint our segment of the viewing audience, just to
temper our enthusiasm a little bit. I think it's best to go into
these things with lowered expectations and get happily surprised by
a good outcome, rather than expect the moon, only to have the rug
yanked out from under us.
One thing I'll be curious to see in the finished film, is how they
handle the TG/TF. Earlier in the thread, I believe TheSaint sussed
out that the change will occur overnight, while Sam is asleep in
bed. The cheapest, quickest and easiest way would be a "poof"
transformation, to simply cut to the next morning, with Knepp
crawling out of bed in Brock Harris' pajamas (or underwear).
However, maybe they'll go for something a bit more visually dynamic
(yet fairly simple), where Harris' arms and legs shrink into his
sleeves (as was done in the original Lalola pilot episode), and/or
his body shape changes/diminishes under his blanket/sheets. I sure
hope it's the latter, though I won't build my expectations too high
on that point.

I like your theories Guestimation but I can't help but be
optimistic.
I hadn't even thought of BIG, but I will admit that could a good
possibility if they're going with a bitter-sweet ending. I really
think they're teasing at a Cinderella type of ending. From the
research I've done I really really really believe there is a
time-limit to Sam being a woman. She'll either have to make a
choice to change back (like Lalola) or she'll have to try and
convince the Shopkeeper not to change her back.
One thing that makes me think it won't end like BIG is that SAM is
always referred to as a "romantic-comedy". BIG (which prominently
features a romance) is simply referred to as "a comedy". You're
gonna want to keep your couple together at the end.
I really don't think Theory #2 is a possibility. There is a line at
the end of the script where Doc says something along the line of
"You're still Sam but you're different." // "Different how?" //
"You're amazing" // :::kiss::::
Also, this is an Indie picture and these kind of movies usually
don't cater to "mainstream audience" expectations. Anything could
go.
One thing that makes me think they'll stay together is that there
is a little girl cast as "the baby". Most of the Lalola's, Switch,
Paradox Alice and a few Asian films end with the couple staying
together and having a child. That would be the ultimate expression
of Samantha's journey into womanhood.

If it's anything like other Mel. Brooks films he could change back
into a man and they just become gay, seeing past gender?
Remember blazing sadles?
He and I would dare suggest his son are not the most republican of
people ;)

I'm mostly interested in the reason behind the transformation and
whether Samantha will explore her new sexuality.

I just want to see a detailed getting ready for work scene. Putting
on black pantyhose, heels, a skirt, bra, and a nice shirt.
If Sam goes back to being male at the end, wouldn't that mean his
friendship with his buddy is basically over? I mean you can't turn
into a woman then fall in love with your best male friend then
change back into a man and still be friends with that male friend.

If it was his brother I'd say it ends in zombies :/
No idea how this will end I look forward to eventually finding out
though

Sam eventually wears a skirt, pantyhose, and curls her hair. I want
to see how such a manly man warms up to wearing such girly clothes.
I hope Sam's gestures begin to change and become for feminine but
his personality more or less stays the same. I want to see that
friendship turn into a romance. I just want a trailer at this
point.

That's true. Why does he start wearing girly clothes after a
lifetime of wearing masculine clothes? Wouldn't it take some time
for him to get used to his female body? And how do we even know if
he would want to wear things that show off his legs, breasts,
stomach, and butt?

I haven't read the entire script but that's the point of the whole
movie. He slowly gets use to his body. There's a point where her
boss wants her to dress more feminine so Samantha goes to Bryan
Batt who gives her a makeover.

Seems drastic. He goes from wearing dress pants, dress shoes,
boxers, dress shirt, tie, and jacket to a dress, panties, bra,
pantyhose, and heels. I mean I get it. He is now in a woman's body
and I guess wants to "feel" pretty so he dresses girly.

Haven't seen the movie yet so I can't comment on to whether it's
"drastic" or not.
I get the impression Sam shows up to work trying to dress like a
man. Sam works in the fashion industry. Apparently a woman dressing
like a man is frowned upon by her boss.
Details are sketchy but it appears there is an evolution to Sam's
look.

Yeah, I get that it's a movie but it's 2014. Women can wear dress
pants. LOL
