Yes! Yes!
I was wondering (with the cold weather and all) if they were going
to shoot the football scene. I was also wondering what Samantha
would be wearing.
Love it.

Thanks for the updates, thesaint. So, if the production company is
beginning to get towards the end of filming, the timeline will be
something like 3-4 months for post production, another 4-6 months
to get it ready for theaters or for DVD/Blu Ray... So therefore SAM
could be ready for release this year? Sometime this autumn?

Hey aronimink,
Don't hold me to this, but everybody is shooting digitally which
means the editor can potentially be cutting the film together as
they are shooting.
On Samantha's facebook page the director of her last project said
that he had a rough cut of that movie finished. I'm assuming she
finished shooting that before Christmas.
The DoP says there are 3 more days of shooting left on his
instagram page. It's very possible they could have a cut of the
movie finished by the end of February.
I'm fuzzy on all the film festivals. They missed Sundance (which is
in January). Berlin is in February (not enough time.) Cannes (which
I don't know if romantic comedies qualify) is in May. Toronto is in
September.
Or maybe they'll go through Netflix, Amazon, VOD or even theaters.
Theater distribution seems unlikely unless it's limited. The
marketing would be extremely expensive and the cast is largely
unknowns.
I'm pretty confident the movie will be released this year. 3-4
month post production is all about the special effects and this
film looks like a good, old fashion indie film. They've got a
colorist so it looks like they'll be doing some digital color
grading (I noticed Sam and Samantha wear green suits so I bet color
will be a motif) like you see in O Brother Where Art Though but I'm
sketchy on the process.
Mako could probably give you a better idea about how this film will
be distributed. I did read on a facebook comment that Mel Brooks
himself is helping get the movie made (Nick Brooks is his son) so
maybe they'll sell it to a distributer immediately upon finishing.
Paradox Alice had a long time between finishing and release because
they had to find distribution.
I'm just really really REALLY grateful for Instagram for the little
snapshots we've been seeing. And I can't wait to see a trailer. I
could wait till Autumn but I'm really hoping for Summer.

I think the fact that the director, Nick Brooks, is going to be
doing a YouTube interview about SAM on February 20th (as thesaint
mentioned in Post #176) means that, in addition to the other
factors mentioned, we'll likely see this sooner rather than later.
I don't work in the industry, but I'd be surprised if they did that
kind of publicity this early, after completing the shoot, for
something they were going to release (whatever the venue/platform)
in, say, the 4th quarter of 2014.

You know whats funny? The director has 2 IMDB pages one linked from
the movie page and the other linked from his father's bio page o.O

That's a really good point, Guestimation.
Also, I hope everybody takes my guesses with a big grain of salt.
If you look waaaayyy earlier in this thread I guessed the movie
would start shooting in the fall of 2012, or something.
Here's an interesting case for Independent film: Terry Gilliam is
an established filmmaker with some blockbuster credits. I think his
biggest hit was 12 Monkeys with Bruce Willis. His most recent
movie, The Zero Theorem, stars one of the most respected and
in-demand actors, Christoph Waltz - and even has Matt Damon.
Principal photography was scheduled to run from October 22 to
December 3, 2012. The movie features some pretty outrageous sets,
costumes and even CGI. It's world premire was 8 months later at the
Venice film festival in August 2013 and then in the US at Fantastic
Fest in September. It's been shown in a few other festivals in
England and Europe since but still doesn't have a release date for
general audiences.
I'm not sure what the strategy is for SAM but I hope it doesn't
take as long as Zero Theorem.

Here's another one, Rush. This must be Sam after the football game
getting a drink. Looks like he's checking that girl out. Awhile
back I thought that was Doc but Sam has longer sideburns.

Samantha likes to wear pantyhose. Rare for males turned females to
wear hosiery in movies. I love it.

Is it sexist for Samantha to wear dresses when she dresses nice? I
mean she could wear some dress shorts with tights or dress pants
and a buttoned down shirt. I've always been curious how some males
turned females in movies and tv shows suddenly go from pants as a
male to dresses, heels, and pantyhose as female.

Oh, GREEAAAATTTT, the whole "sexist" thing again. Hmmm, I don't
know, is it sexist for a woman to wear a dress? Or pantyhose? Do we
tell all women who wear that stuff that they are sexist??!?!?
Remember: (A) From what we know at this time, according to the
story, Samantha is a 100% genetic female. 100% female in body,
mind, heart and soul, with only her male memories --- strong though
they may be --- of her former male life and (B) We don't know at
what point in time Samantha chose to wear that dress. Was it a day
or 2 after her transformation? Or a few weeks or months later? I'm
betting on the latter.

And thanks again thesaint for all of the great updates. From all of
the pics you've posted I believe that the director and producer are
going for NOT just a male to female TG film, but an alpha-male to
lady TG film. I'm very thankful that this is an indie production,
and therefore will have (probably) a more thoughtful and
imaginative approach to the subject.

@post #216 you mean why doesn't he/she dress like this?
http://instagram.com/p/jz1HAOkO82/
http://instagram.com/p/jVGE2wLHtl/ looks like she/he does... Who
knows why she changes? To fit in, maybe she/he like it? It's their
film so leave them to it, watch it, enjoy it... Or don't... Either
way, nothing pleases everybody.

I'm glad everybody is liking the pictures. I have to admit I was
thrilled to see Samantha in another feminine costume and I'm
enjoying the choice of pantyhose and heels. As well as the addition
of the purse.
I like that the film is having parallel scenes to showcase
Samantha's new perspective and evolution. For instance, I like how
there will be a scene with Lou the doorman right after her
transformation and then later when she's acclimated .
As for the question "why does she dress like that" the script
suggests it's not her first idea. It looks like when she starts
working at her old job she's dressed very plain. She might be
wearing heels but she starts with a pant suite and doesn't style
her hair. I'm going to assume the skirt and dresses are all about
what's expected of her to wear.
Now, I'm really hoping they do is showcase her evolution into a
lady. Not just dressing more feminine but styling her hair, wearing
accessories (like the hat) and seeing her mannerisms change.
I wouldn't be surprised that she starts having to wear dresses on
Day 2 but I'm curious how they'll present her curling her hair,
getting use to heels, crossing her legs, etc.
The script pages I've read imply Sam has a way of speaking. He
swears a lot. They show Samantha having to bite her tongue because
it comes off as crass.
As for sexist, I have a lot of female friends that swear, don't
wear anything feminine , and generally act like a "dude." I'm all
for that. Be yourself. Don't conform to society. But for the
purposes of this story it makes sense that Samantha would have to
dress up. She works for a MODELING AGENCY and her boss is Morgan
Fairchild. Besides, half the fun is Samantha having to struggle
with physical changes as well as societal changes.
I'm thrilled to see that Sam changes but doesn't lose his identity.
I'm curious who falls for who first. Does Sam develop feelings for
Doc first or the other way around.
Also, what's the deal with the two pairs of Speed Talkers in the
cast list? I had a theory (based on no evidence) that it might be a
device used for a mental shift. In Cleo/Leo we hear Leo's thoughts
and then it begins to fade out and we hear Cleo. My theory is in
the beginning of the film Sam hears 2 women chatting and in it's
fast and nonsensical. From his perspective women are talking about
b.s. Then later, he overhears the speed talkers and they start to
slow down. He's interested in what they're talking about because
he's starting to think like them.
It's probably just a senseless background joke but wouldn't that be
a great realization that his brain is changing?
