I've been praying my favorite Spidey bad guy would show up in one
of these movies. Especially cause Raimi himself might focus more on
a TF than other big name directors. They start production on
Spider-Man 4 in the Spring 2010 - which means they already have
their story set. Sony and Raimi like to keep mum on everything...
but a big leak came out today that I've heard from several sources.
And if true... we could hopefully get a great TF movie out of it!!!

Oh I DO hope they carry through with this. Lizzy seems the most
probable villian for the next Spidey film but as the article says,
that could change.
I've also heard that Sam will be doing Spidey 5 following Spidey 4.
That would be great.
Thanks for the update Mako.

It's logical for the villain to be the Lizard considering the setup
from the last two movies. Although I wouldn't call myself a fan, I
thought the next villain would be Electro. Wait and see.

I'm of the exact opposite thought. The Lizard has always been one
of my least favorite Spider-Man villains and I've never really
found myself enjoying stories about him. He's basically second only
to Vulture in terms of boringness to me.
Honestly, I was more hoping for some of my personal favorites:
Chameleon, Mysterio or my all-time favorite, Shocker.

while i would like to see th elizard i think mysterio would be
better and chameleon even greater have him as Mary Jane, Miss Brant
or Gwen Stacy would be interesting

I'm not going to be surprised if the fourth movie bombs, either
with fans, or with critics. Look at Superman, Batman, Jaws, Star
Wars and Indiana Jones. All had fourth movies that sucked.
But some TF in the movie would be interesting.

I agree with guest #7.
I am also thinking that the comic book Superhero Movie cycle is
winding down.
In this instance, the appeal of the Spiderman franchise depends
largely upon Toby McGuire's boyish charms, and I suspect he may
finally have aged out of the role.

Whoever the next Spidey villian is I hope to Gawd he doesn't kidnap
Mary jane.
And leave Aunt May alone I mean she can't take much more, poor ol'
girl's overdue for a heart attack.

Are you kidding? There are Green Lantern and Jonah Hex movies
coming.
From Marvel you're getting Iron Man 2, Thor, Ant-Man, Captain
America, Avengers, Deadpool, Spider-Man 4 (and possibly 5-6 as
well) and Kick-Ass.
Super-hero movies are still popular and are an easy source of
material and money for studios so I don't think they're going
anywhere any time soon.

I also think Superhero movies will continue to do well over the
coming years, mainly because it's fun/escapist entertainment that
people will want to see (considering the state of things). I'm not
really a big superhero fan myself. But every once in a while a
movie comes a long that I really like (ie: Dark Knight/ Spider-Man
2). And... there are occasional transformations in the Super-Hero
world. So that helps.

I don't know about the "easy" part. Superhero movies have been,
typically, big budget spectaculars. From my -- admittedly cursory
-- reading of entertainment industry news, it is my understanding
that the spectaculars aren't making back their budgets as quickly
or as consistently in the face or the "global financial crisis"
(tm).
Given that there is also the (perceived) requirement that each new
entry has to raise the level of spectacle to bring in the teens and
young adults, and to hold the attention of the non-english-speaking
audience, it is my expectation that we will see fewer -- rather
than more -- superhero movies in the style of the Spiderman
franchise.
While there are more superhero movies in production (or
development), I think this has more to do with the lack of
imagination in the movie industry than with the economic viability,
or continued popularity, of the genre -- and the fact that
production timelines are very long meaning that the industry cannot
turn on a dime.
However, there are some smart people making movies who are figuring
out how to make movies more cheaply, so we might see tighter,
better written, less SFX-heavy superhero movies replacing the
flash-bang-boom that dominates the genre now.

And not to pick-nits, but Jonah Hex is a weird-western character,
not a superhero.

Hmmm... well studios have been known to throw out false information
to lead people off the scent of what's really happening. It would
make sense to bring in Black Cat to help stir up the pot between
Peter and Mary Jane - but it would be disappointing to not have The
Lizard in this one. Grrrrr.
